Selling A House – Exterior Checklist

March 20, 2010

When selling a home, it is important to have curb appeal.  The first impression a buyer gets of your house is the exterior – it is also the last thing a buyer sees before  they leave.

Look at your home’s exterior objectively from the perspective of a person who has never been to your house before.  What looks good? What needs attention?

The following is a checklist to help you get started:

Area
Tip
LawnUser fertilzer to keep it green.
Mow frequently
Driveway and SidewalksRepair any cracks
Remove stains
FencesLevel
Paint
Doors, window frames, fasciaTouch up paint
ShrubberyTrim back to reveal homes exterior
Gutters and downspoutsReplace missing parts
Clean debris
WindowsClean inside and out

If, after reviewing your list, you find the work too daunting, hire a qualified handyman for some or all of the tasks.
